Waste Reduction(Production)

Environmental Risk Reduction

We Have Waste Disposal Guidelines

Illegal waste dumping is a growing problem, one that Misawa Homes is committed to reducing by implementing a comprehensive waste-management solution. The company has established stringent guidelines for managing waste based on the industry standards. The “Guide for Disposal of Construction Waste” defines how to manage and dispose of waste generated at the construction site, and the “Guidelines on Disposal of Factory Byproducts” defines how to manage waste generated at factories.

Both these sets of guidelines stipulate, among other things, how to select and manage contracts with outside disposal firms. The company has added detailed standards for demolition of houses with components containing asbestos.

The Guide and Guidelines are subject to continuous review and revision and are published on the company’s Website.

Zero Emissions

Continued Zero Emissions at All Misawa Factories

The Environment Ministry’s “2006 Industrial Waste by Industry” report says total industrial waste decreased 0.8 percent to 418,497,000 tons in 2006, but increased 1.4 percent to 77,534,000 tons in the construction industry. The industry generated 18.5 percent of all industrial waste, making it the third largest waste generator. Under our 5-year “SUSTAINABLE 2010” plan, Misawa Homes Group has been striving to reduce waste in all of our operations. As a fruit of such endeavors, all of our factories accomplished zero emissions in fiscals 2008 and 2009. We are determined to continue to make efforts to further reduce waste, while promoting social green awareness activities in communities in which we operate. Industrial Waste by Industry (2006)

Zero Emissions at Constraction sites

Under our “SUSTAINABLE 2010,” we have been striving to accomplish zero emissions at all new home construction sites by fiscal 2011, which ends March, 2011. In fiscal 2009, all of our sales dealers, who manage construction work in their regions, worked diligently toward zero emissions. In fiscal 2009, one of our sales dealers achieved zero emissions. Misawa Homes Group continues to endeavor to reduce waste and accomplishes zero emissions by the end of fiscal 2011 at all construction sites across the country through all-out efforts by our people in all divisions that deal with any part of the lifecycle of homes.

Kanto Resource Recycle Center

We built a recycle facility “Kanto Resource Recycle Center” in Noda, Chiba Prefecture, in fiscal 2009 to collect and dispose of waste with a view to accomplishing zero emissions at construction sites. The center that covers Tokyo and seven prefectures in the Kanto area received a certification from the Environment Minister to serve those regions in recognition of its high waste collection and disposal operation standards. The Kanto Resource Recycle Center has a building area of about 2,900 square meters, on a site area of about 25,600 square meters and can process waste generated from 3,500 houses a year. Construction waste is separated into ten groups at construction sites, collected by trucks that have delivered construction materials to the sites, and processed and divided into about 30 categories. The categorized items are passed onto recycle operators. Data obtained at the center are utilized to improve our comprehensive waste reduction programs. We will make the most of the data obtained at the center so we can expand this system all over Japan with the aim to accomplish zero emissions at all new home construction sites.
